Canada owns the top step- revised

Canadian athletes are a medal away from setting a new record for most gold medals won at a winter games. Canada may not own the podium but they own the top step..........well done team.

So it seems that once again the official language police have decided that there just wasn't even french being spoken during the opening ceremonies..........as it was said "we paid our 20 million to hear more french".......Quebec Premier Jean Charest and Liberial Prime Minister wannabee Iggy have jumped on board the more french train and are in support of an investigation as to why there just wasn't enough.........have the First Nations folks come out and wondered why more whatever they speak wasn't spoken.........bang a gong........tapp the drum.......whatever.........I don't think so.. as most of the ceremony was devoted to their culture..........I thought the ceremony was fine......some very cool things happened......so why can't the politicians leave well enough alone and say thanks Vancouver that was great......instead of pinching out another Olympic movement.

The Olympics

Well here we are just wrapping up day 2 in Vancouver and all the hype spewed out by CTV and TSN about our best Canadian chances for gold medals have come and gone on day 1 with a choke and a silver.... own the podium...we have been hearing......honestly I hope that during the remaining days Canadian athletes do own the podium........whether we believe in a jinx or not.... having TSN and CTV pinning all the medal hopes on these already stressed athletes is just not something that should be done...........as we hear........."coming up next Canada's first guaranteed gold medal winner"........ add more pressure......add a jinx.........and what happens........nothing............so the women's hockey will win a medal.... it won't be gold..........men's hockey is a team to beat.......and they will win a medal......it won't be gold.

Canada will listen to the experts stating that "he should be overjoyed by that 15th place finish as he wasn't expected to finish that high" That's an amazing performance by the young Canadian.....just 17 spots away from the bronze.......Canada as it has always done thrives on the mediocre....and accepts it............it's not acceptable.....it's not owning the podium...........Canada owns the gold medal of mediocre.

My bus ride

I rode the bus today and as usual was amused at the wide... very wide....variety of obese people......I like to stand on the bus that way I can have my own little bit of personal space......I had that little bit of personal space today until I was surrounded by 2 people......one who if dressed in red would have looked very much like a fire hydrant and the other who orginally had a seat until the woman with the suv stroller took over the seats that he had swarmed..........these 2 people completely surrounded me .....but in the event of an accident I would have felt very well protected...........Now I do realize that everyone has the right to ride the bus.........and I shouldn't complain......well I'm not really even complaining....not really......except that these 2 had the balance of weebles......when the bus stopped they rolled to the front.....as the bus left they squished to the back...........and me in the middle like a steak wrapped with fat.........riding the bus is fun.

Airport scanners and the random touch

So once again the United States has gone way overboard with airport security simply because they had a huge lack of internal security......spooks and spys missed informing the rest of the world that they were letting a suspected terrorist board one of their flights...........so who suffers........well once again it's the common folk that just want to fly. In Ottawa this week and 85 year old grandmother was asked to undo her pants and take her shoes off so the minimum wage security "expert" could pat her down..........after all we remember the gangs of little old ladies that roamed the streets in Monty Python stirring up trouble.........It was just a random check........seems she was the lucky passenger.......I have been the lucky "random" passenger 5 times going through security.....I have no problem with it....I have nothing to hide.....I'm honest..........and I won't cause any scene........however I believe that I am a victim of physical profiling........I'm a well dressed middle aged physically fit english speaking white male with a shaved head and goatee..........and I have been the random passenger 5 times............so does this sound like physical profiling...........I suppose I must look suspicious to the overweight ethnically challenged "security" expert.........My carry on bag is checked everytime.........again I have no problem with this as I have nothing to hide........and I have always been treated well..........and joked with the friendly "security" expert.....and who doesn't like a little pat down every now and then.

So where do we go from here.........well the country will have cool new scanners soon and only persons over the age of 18 will have to drop their virtual underware while the good folks have a peak at the cool new tatoo on your ass..........if you're under 18 you won't have to be shy about being seen virtually naked.............you get to be patted down by some stranger.....if you're good maybe they'll offer you some candy............is there something disturbing about a stranger patting down your 14 year old son or daughter........according to the "security" experts ..........nope.

H1N1 the pigs flew in 09

So the pig flu has come and gone, but we have been warned that it may come back again........well I would be surprised if we weren't being warned.......afterall Canada still has 1.5 million shots of vaccine left over.......just keep it in the fridge next to the mayo and two week old chinese food leftovers. Pig flu inspite of all the hype ranked 2nd in Canada as the biggest news story.......The predictions of global human devistation.....the end of mankind......were just a little overstated....400 people in Canada died from the piggy flu.........worldwide 14,000.........while it is always a tragedy when anyone dies before their time..........worldwide death toll for seasonal flu according to the World Health Organization is generally between 250,000-500,000...........As predicted in this blog back in May 2009, the pig flu won't be a huge problem, the problem will be created and it was.......the WHO threw out the scare and everyone bought into it.......
